I recently had the pleasure of speaking with Alex Fullick on his show Preparing
for the Unexpected, where we delved into the key ideas from my latest book,
Building Resilient Futures. It was a valuable opportunity to reflect on
what resilience truly means in today’s complex world.
In our discussion, I emphasized that resilience is not just a
concept—it’s a mindset and a practice. The book explores different forms of
resilience—emotional, organizational, societal—and how they play out not only
in times of crisis but also in the quieter, in-between periods. I argue that
the much sought-after “silver bullet” in resilience may not be an external tool
or system—but rather lies within ourselves.
Drawing from theory and real-world examples, the book offers practical
insights for anyone—from professionals and leaders to students and
policy-makers. My aim is to help readers not only understand resilience but
apply it meaningfully in their lives and work.
With my background in founding and leading Resilience First Ltd, as well
as working with the National Preparedness Commission, I’ve had the privilege to
observe and contribute to the evolving field of resilience. I hope this book
serves as both a guide and a call to action—because building a safer, stronger
world begins with each of us.
